How to create and set up Coinbase Pro API key
Connect your Coinbase Pro account to Bitsgap
Updated this week

In this article, we will show you how to create, configure, and connect your Coinbase Pro API key to the Bitsgap platform.

Bitsgap is a trading platform that allows you to work with numerous cryptocurrency exchanges from a unified interface with access to additional tools that are not available on the exchange.

All trading operations are created and processed by using an exchange API key which is unique for every user. An API key is a safe and reliable way to use a platform because it does not give access to your personal data and prevents any funds management (withdrawals & deposits).

1. Log in to Coinbase Pro

Log in to your Coinbase Pro account or create a new one.

2. Go to the API page

From your account settings (top-right corner) navigate to the API page.

3. Create a new API key

On the API settings tab, click [NEW API KEY] to proceed.

4. Label your API key and match API key permissions

Give your API key any name (it is your personal choice), so you can easily understand that this key is connected to your Bitsgap account.

❗ Please note that you will need to create a Passphrase at this stage. This password is individual for each API key. Save it somewhere safe because we will need it a little bit later.

Edit your permissions as in the example below. These permissions will allow us to read your history, current balance and execute trades on your exchange account.

Here is the list of required permissions:

  • View on

  • Transfer off

  • Trade on

  • *IP Whitelist leave blank

*To run the Bitsgap service, our platform uses numerous IP addresses which cannot be whitelisted. Please do not use your home IP because it will restrict our platform to send any requests from your Bitsgap account to your Coinbase Pro account.

5. Copy your API Key, API Secret, and Passphrase.

As soon as you create a new Coinbase Pro API key you will receive a window where the Secret key can be copied. Please store it somewhere safe for now. When you are ready, feel free to close this window.

To find your API key, please go back to API Settings and check your recently created key. You will need to copy it somewhere safe as well.

Log in to your Bitsgap account and go to the My Exchanges page where you can find an option to connect your Coinbase Pro account. Click [New exchanges].

7. Select Coinbase Pro exchange from the list

From the pop-up window, you need to search Coinbase Pro. This will change you to a window where you can add your API keys for the Coinbase Pro exchange.

8. Enter your API key, Secret key and Passphrase

Paste your Coinbase Pro API key, Secret key, Passphrase, and click [Connect]. Now your Coinbase Pro account has been successfully connected!
